I have written over 100 books for children (both fiction and non-fiction), all based around animals and embedded with good science knowledge and understanding. Collectively, these books have sold more than 3.5 million copies and are published in multiple languages.

I am a teacher (35 years) and I have been a Primary Science Specialist teacher for the last 22 years. I initiated a program in schools for which I won the 2015 Prime Ministers Prize for Teaching Science, The Peter Doherty Award for Innovation in Science Teaching (2010) and the Griffith University Outstanding Alumnus of Year (2016).

My goal, as both a teacher and an author, has been to make Science irresistible to prep and primary school aged children so that they can’t wait to take in on in high school, and become the scientists Australia desperately needs. I do this through humour, engagement and real-world exposure. I believe in imaginary play and enrapturing students to inspire them to want to know more, and be more.

I teach Science to 420 students a week. I run ‘Nearly a Vet Conventions’ in holidays and on weekends. I am married with two adult children and live on the northern Gold Coast.
