Jonathan Olsberg / Olsberg SPI
Jonathan Olsberg has worked in the screen industries for 37 years. He founded international consultancy Olsberg SPI in 1992. His work there as chairman has ranged across all areas of its expertise and he has led dozens of studies and assignments relevant to the global screen industry. He is responsible for SPI’s work with international clients and travels frequently to existing and emerging markets, which in 2019 have included Australia, New Zealand, USA, Russia, Abu Dhabi, Sweden, Italy and Costa Rica. Jonathan has been involved in many Australian assignments over the last 20 years including as an assessor for Screen Australia’s original Enterprise corporate finance scheme.
Jonathan started out in New York as an international film sales agent (including for My Beautiful Launderette). He then distributed films in the U.S. from auteur directors like Godard, Greenaway and Paul Cox. In 1989 Jonathan returned to London running sales agent Glinwood Films (The Last Emperor).
Jonathan also ran production company Dakota Films with then-partner Luc Roeg from 1992 to 2008 (Oliver Parker’s Othello) .
Jonathan is a member of BAFTA, the British Screen Advisory Council, the Creative Industries Federation and the European Film Academy.
His first career was in finance, in London and New York, with the British merchant bank Hill Samuel (1973-1981). In 1973, Jonathan obtained an MBA from Columbia University in New York having previously qualified as a chartered accountant in 1971.
