Biography
Rhianna is a proudly queer Butchulla and Kamilaroi writer, filmmaker and artist. She began her film career in the Art Department with credits including Goldstone, Thor: Ragnarok and Mortal Engines, before shifting into screenwriting and directing.
As a screenwriter, she has worked on ABC's Black Comedy, Bunya Productions’ Nice Shorts and Ludo Studio’s The Strange Chores. Her short-form series Biting Dust was selected for The Equity Foundation’s Diversity Showcase 2021, while her drama series Suburban Beats was selected for Screen Queensland’s First People’s First Draft initiative. In 2022, her short script The Stockman, developed with support from Screen Australia’s First Nations Department, won the prestigious AWG Monte Miller Award. In 2024, Rhianna spent a year working in development at Orange Entertainment Co, as the Queensland recipient of the SBS Emerging Writer’s Incubator. In the same year her online series Mangrove Mansion, co-created with Mary Duong, was shortlisted for SBS’s Digital Originals program. Rhianna is currently creating video-art piece wului: pink smoke as the recipient of a Grounded Story Grant from Common Ground.
A proud First Nations woman and activist, Rhianna embraces the power of humour as a tool of survival in her work. With a passion for character-driven dramedy, her storytelling explores family, connection, intergenerational healing and First Nations resistance with joyful mischievousness and generous spirit.
