Biography
Damian is the CEO of The HOYTS Group, a position he has held since 2014. HOYTS operates 60 cinemas in Australia and New Zealand. The Group also includes Val Morgan media which sells cinema, outdoor and digital advertising in Australia, New Zealand and nine territories in the Middle East.
Damian has overseen a significant rejuvenation and reengineering of cinema in Australia and New Zealand with the introduction of powered recliner seats in mainstream auditoriums. In the past decade HOYTS has built and acquired 15 new cinemas and renovated over 30 cinemas in a $300m investment program.
HOYTS market share has grown from 18% to 27% in Australia over this time. He has also overseen the rebranding and redesign of their premium cinema offering to HOYTS LUX and the introduction of the Treat City front of house concept.
Prior to his time at HOYTS Damian worked at Channel Seven and Foxtel before he was appointed CEO of iconic ad sales house Val Morgan in 2011. In his time with the group, Val Morgan has grown revenue from $50m per annum to over $180m in 2024.
A former professional sportsman, he enjoyed a distinguished 16-year basketball career in the Australian National Basketball League, captaining the Sydney Kings from 1989 to 1995. He represented Australia on over 200 occasions in basketball including three Olympic campaigns at Los Angeles in 1984, Seoul 1988 and Barcelona in 1992, as well as three World Championships - 1982 in Columbia, 1990 in Argentina and 1994 in Toronto.
Damian was the Chairman of the Cronulla Sharks Rugby League team from 2012 to 2017, including the teams first premiership win in the clubs 50 year history in 2016.
Damian is married to former Olympic basketballer Maree White and the couple have four children.
