Biography
Katrina is a writer and director working across screen and theatre. She creates in many genres including feminist horror. She was twice ADG nominated for her co-direction on Bali 2002, a STAN Original drama series which explores the journeys of those affected by the devastating 2002 Bali bombings. Working with both trained and first time actors, Katrina directed in a bicultural, bilingual way, bringing truth to performance through connection and safety. She created the cultural safety document for that show. Katrina has worked with Queensland Theatre and La Boite Theatre on multiple projects as dramaturg and cultural safety and had her plays developed at National Play Festival, Haque Centre Singapore, Sydney Festival and STC. She wrote and directed, White Song, a segment of SBS screened Dark Whispers, Australia’s first all-female directed horror anthology. The feature script of that Indonesian ghost story has been developed through Screen Queensland and recently selected by AFF x JAFF into the market in Jogyakarta. She is currently in development with Mother Tongue, an anti-racist midwifery drama series and Siti Rubiyah a supernatural tale set in the jungles of Sumatra. Katrina is known for her inclusive, collaborative directing style. Her empathy and clarity of vision enable her to facilitate grounded performances from her actors. She is Development Producer at Ana Tiwary’s indiVisual films international. Katrina served on the WIFT International board which represents WIFT chapters across six continents. She is Chair of Screen Queensland’s Equity and Diversity Taskforce. Katrina celebrates her Indonesian-Australian heritage. She is represented by BMEG.
