Biography
Director and Joint CEO of Wooden Horse, Richard Finlayson has worked in television production and executive roles for over 20 years. Prior to starting Wooden Horse with Jude Troy in 2019, he was the Director of Television at the ABC, Chief Operating Officer at SBS and Director of Programme Acquisitions at XYZ Entertainment (JV of Foxtel and Austar). At Wooden Horse, Richard produced the feature documentary THE CAPE which premiered in competition at the 70th Annual Sydney Film Festival before its national release on Stan. He produced ROSE GOLD for ABC, a feature documentary charting the Australian Boomers first ever medal at the 2020 Olympics, that premiered at the Melbourne International Film Festival and screened in theatres nationally with Madman Entertainment. Richard was an executive producer on THE CLEARING for Disney+ globally, starring Teresa Palmer, Miranda Otto and Guy Pearce, and the reimagining of MOTHER AND SON with comedians Matt Okine and Denise Scott (Season 2 in production). Richard also executive produced seasons one and two of STUFF THE BRITISH STOLE for ABC and CBC in Canada (Season 3 in production). The factual series is a co-production with WildBear Entertainment and stars Marc Fennell. During his time at ABC, Richard commissioned thousands of hours of original award-winning programming including dramas Glitch, Nowhere Boys and Cleverman, comedies such as Utopia and Hard Quiz and premium factual events like Life on the Reef. Wooden Horse was awarded the Breakthrough Business of the Year at the SPA Awards in 2024.
