Biography
Huna Amweero is a screenwriter and producer. Raised amongst diverse artists and activists, Huna’s work aims to unravel all forms of oppression while embracing the fictional freedom of allowing marginalised characters to play out their imperfections on-screen. Huna wrote Blaze with visual artist Del Kathryn Barton for Causeway Films (earning a 2022 AWGIE win for Best Feature Film – Original). Blaze (2022) had its World Premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, and its Australian Premiere at the Sydney Film Festival. Huna and Del earned the Betty Roland Prize for Screenwriting in the NSW Premier Literary Awards (2023). She wrote and produced the TikTok series Krystal Klairvoyant. Garnering over 100K views, the series won Best International Short at Series Fest 2023 and Best Newform Drama at C21 International Drama awards. Huna has been in writer’s rooms for several productions including Surviving Summer (Netflix), for which she gained her first episodic credit, Black Snow (Stan). Huna has participated in professional development programs including Belvoir Theatre’s associates program and Screen Australia’s Enterprise people where she was placed at Hunter and Stephen Page’s company Djali House.
