Monkeys & Parrots’ most recent feature, The Swearing Jar, world premiered at TIFF: written by Kate Hewlett and directed by Lindsay MacKay, this acclaimed female-led romantic musical stars Adelaide Clemens, Kathleen Turner and Patrick J. Adams. Our first film, A Dog’s Breakfast (written & directed by David Hewlett) was produced for $125K: distributed by MGM it has since grossed over $2.5M. Our sci-fi horror, Debug, starred Jason Momoa. We also produced the queer anti-rom-com All About Who You Know (written & directed by Jake Horowitz), and short films The Trial of Ben Barry (starring Richard Roundtree, written & directed by Shea Butler) and Do Us Part (written & directed by William Phillips), which recently premiered opening night of the Canadian Film Festival.
As lead producer at Monkeys & Parrots, Jane Loughman focuses on projects that are female-led and female targeted: she strives to provide training, mentorship and opportunities for career advancement for female, non-binary or culturally underrepresented crafts-folk; and to promote sustainable practices across all productions.
Jane’s career began as an entertainment journalist in London and Los Angeles; during which time she interviewed everyone from Johnny Depp to Tim Burton, Ringo Starr to LL Cool J, Keira Knightley to Kermit & Gonzo. She produced: Movies, Games & Videos (UK ITV); E! News Live (NBC Universal); Hollywood Boulevard (international syndication); Entertainment Tonight (UK & Canada editions). Jane is an alumna of the TransAtlantic Partners Program; she has participated in the Producer's Lab and International Finance Forums at TIFF; EFM’s Producers Without Borders; and Cannes’ Marché du Film Producer's Network. She holds a Masters in Film & English and a Certificate in Entertainment Law. Jane also teaches Film Financing and Producing & Production Management at Toronto Film School.
