Biography
Ben is one of Australia’s most experienced and multi-skilled television executives, with an uninterrupted career spanning 38 years. A passionate storyteller, format creator, team manager, strategist and mentor, Ben has worked in news, documentary (observational, history, true crime, event), reality, entertainment, comedy (scripted and panel), and lifestyle genres.
Since graduating in 1983 from Mitchell College A.E. (Bathurst, NSW) with a BA Communications Degree (Broadcast Journalism and Documentary), Ben has developed, produced, written and/or directed programmes for all the Australian free-to-air networks, subscription television, UK broadcasters Channel 4 and History) as well as US Networks (National Geographic, Fox, Discovery, Health, and Travel Channels). Ben is also a regular participant in television markets and conferences (MIPCOM, MIPTV, Screen Forever, AIDC, RealScreen, Asia Side Of The Doc), has been a guest lecturer/speaker/workshop runner at Macquarie University, Charles Sturt University and the Australian Film, Television & Radio School. He is currently a member of AFTRS’ Curriculum Consultancy Committee and is actively involved in mentoring young filmmakers with their respective projects. Recent credits include I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here Australia! (Network 10), Australia Behind Bars (Nine), Alone Australia (SBS), Nurses (Seven), Inside Central Station (SBS), Life On The Outside (SBS), Who Gets To Stay In Australia? (SBS). His programs have won Logies for Outstanding Factual Program in 2011 for Trishna & Krishna (Seven) , and Outstanding Reality Program in 2022 for I’m A Celebrity.
