LEAH PURCELL is a proud Goa-Gungarri-Wakka Wakka Murri woman from Queensland. She is an internationally acclaimed, multi-award winning playwright, screenwriter, director, novelist, actor, creator, cultural philanthropist and thought leader. She has smashed ceilings across mediums . As a screenwriter: THE TWELVE, director/writer: REDFERN NOW, and director: CLEVERMAN, MY LIFE IS MURDER, and THE SECRET DAUGHTER, as the first ever Aboriginal female set-up director on a commercial TV show; In theatre: THE DROVER’S WIFE, BOX THE PONY, DON’T TAKE YOUR LOVE TO TOWN and IS THAT YOU, RUTHIE? which premiered in December 2023; in print: BLACK CHICKS TALKING, and THE DROVER’S WIFE play and novel. She won the 2023 AACTA for Best Actress for her role as Molly Johnson in THE DROVER’S WIFE THE LEGEND OF MOLLY JOHNSON, which received 13 AACTA nominations. As an actor, Leah is one of the stars on premium TV series THE LOST FLOWERS OF ALICE HART and on HIGH COUNTRY, her new series for FOXTEL/BINGE/SONY PICTURES TV USA, on which she is the Lead and Executive Producer.
