Biography
Anupam Sharma is an award-winning filmmaker, author and cultural ambassador, widely credited with pioneering Australia’s relationship with Indian cinema and named among Australia’s fifty most influential film professionals. He holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Film and Theatre and a UNSW postgraduate thesis on Indian cinema, and founded TEMPLE—an award-winning international film production and consultancy company based at Disney Studios, Sydney, celebrating its 25th anniversary. As Producer/EP, TEMPLE has delivered 415+ projects, including campaigns for Destination NSW (Asian market), the Intellectual Property Awareness Foundation, the International Cricket Council and the Australian National Maritime Museum.
His producing and directing work includes the multimillion-dollar indie Australian romantic comedy “unINDIAN” starring Australian cricket legend Brett Lee, and award-winning documentaries “The Run” and “Brand Bollywood… Downunder”. The latter, termed as one of the most comprehensive explorations of Bollywood’s global influence, won Best Documentary at the 27th UK Asian Film Festival and is available on Netflix (ANZ), ABC International, and SBS On Demand. His slate includes the feature “Framed” (development assistance from SBS, Screen Australia and Screen NSW), “Chilli Chicks & Heart Attack” (development support from Screen Canberra), and “Bidjara Kumari” (supported by Screen Australia, Screen Queensland, and Indian co-production backing). With further development investment from Australian film bodies and international investors, Anupam has a slate of high-profile Australian film projects as a Producer, and some as a Director with major Australian filmmakers.
In 2025 he launched the National Indian Film Festival of Australia (NIFFA)—Australia’s first and largest celebration of Indian cinema across metropolitan and regional communities. He has advised productions such as Baz Luhrmann’s “Moulin Rouge”, DFAT and NSW and Queensland Governments, and served as Chief Judge/Advisor on SBS’s “Bollywood Star”. A strong supporter of diversity and the international promotion of Australian cinema, Anupam has led several Australian initiatives, including Australia India Film Council and An Australian Film Initiative, founded the AI Film Fund, and partnered to launch WRT - Australia’s first First Nations–focused production and sales firm. A frequent guest commentator on ABC, SBS, Nine, SPA, Art Gallery of NSW, and other industry forums, he has also served on the Screen Queensland Diversity Task Force and is an Australia Day Ambassador.
