Biography
Claire Pullen was appointed Executive Director for the Australian Writers’ Guild in October 2021, bringing with her a wealth of high-level strategic experience from her previous work at the Public Service Association, Family Planning NSW, the Community and Public Sector Union and the Fire Brigade Employees’ Union of NSW, and her time as a microbusiness owner. Claire holds a master’s degree in Labour Law and Relations from the University of Sydney and two other degrees.

The Australian Writers’ Guild is the professional association representing writers for stage, screen, radio, and online and has protected and promoted their creative and professional interests for almost 60 years.

Claire is an award-winning campaigner and lobbyist with a background in employment and industrial relations and workplace policy as well as media and social media management.

She is a strong advocate for writers at a time of pivotal change in the screen and arts sectors. Her focus, as she leads the Guild into its 60th year, is to see performance writing and performance writers thrive as a dynamic and integral part of Australian storytelling, shaping, reflecting and enhancing the Australian cultural voice in all its diversity.
