Biography
Vanessa Alexander is an award-winning writer and producer, recently nominated for Best Comedy Series and Best New Series at the Writers Guild of America Awards as a staff writer and story editor on The Great (Hulu/Stan). Alongside two seasons on The Great, Vanessa wrote four episodes for the upcoming Netflix/MGM series Vikings: Valhalla, going on to become a Co-Executive Producer on season 2. With a great love of poorly-behaved but endearing female protagonists, Vanessa is now developing a series about Renaissance artists Artemisia Gentileschi for CBS Viacom UK. Her work in the UK also includes writing for Tin Star and Executive Producing a documentary series for Netflix.

In 2018, Vanessa was nominated for an Australian Writers Guild Award for her work on the comedy/drama series The Wrong Girl. She also wrote on the Australian drama Love Child. Prior to this, Vanessa worked extensively in New Zealand where she also won many awards, was the Lead Director of acclaimed series Outrageous Fortune, and the Executive Producer of Taika Waititi’s Oscar-nominated short, Two Cars, One Night. Her teen show Being Eve also received an International Emmy nomination.

Outside of her screen work, Vanessa has a B.A. in English Literature, a P.G. Dip in Directing, a Masters in Film and Television Theory and a Ph.D in Creative Writing. With five children, one foster son, two ex-husbands and a father she once helped jump bail, Vanessa is rarely short of inspiration for a story.
