Biography
Caroline Roberts-Cherry is founder and MD of Saffron Cherry Productions, based in Manchester. SCP makes Factual, Kids and Drama. She is a BAFTA winning producer and a Grierson award winning director. Previously, she was an Executive Producer at the BBC in Entertainment and a commissioner in BBC Education. She was part of SMT as BBC Television’s Independents and Diversity Executive where she ran the Diversity Action Plan. She headed up an ITV quiz label Man Possessed before establishing the multi-genre Saffron Cherry Productions in Manchester in 2018.
Children’s content includes The World According to Grandpa for Milkshake! and in Welsh Byd Tad-cu for S4C. The show was nominated for the RTS award for best children’s programme and won the Broadcast Award for best pre-school and the Voice of the Listeners and Viewers Award for best Children’s TV. The Wonton Warrior, made for CBBC has garnered three international nominations, The Rockies and Kidscreen Awards and Content Innovation Awards.
Saffron Cherry’s creative director is the popular actor and writer Sally Lindsay (Coronation St, Mount Pleasant, Cold Call). She is the creator, lead and co-writer of The Madame Blanc Mysteries (Channel 5/Acorn TV).
Caroline produced a stage to screen cinematically released film of King Lear featuring a black led cast, as part of the Shakespeare Lives 500-year celebrations, also shown on Christmas Day (BBC4).
Caroline has sat on the Advisory Committee for England at Ofcom and is a long-term theatre trustee at Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester, Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse, and currently Opera North. She is a Smartworks Ambassador and Chair of the Pankhurst Trust incorporating Manchester Women’s Aid.
